Eva quietly, almost shyly, came to her first job interview and said honestly from the beginning:
“I don’t know how to communicate with them … but I want to work with them. With my heart.”
She became the first fully-fledged person (besides the secretary) to be employed by the Deafblind Association of Slovenia DLAN. Her presence was a challenge for many, but Eva opened many paths with her patience, calmness, respect and warmth. She learned quickly and showed deep respect for people with deafblindness every day.
Her great desire is to become an official interpreter for the language of the deafblind, but the system does not yet allow this. Eva has been working with people with deafblindness every day for more than a decade as a personal assistant: she accompanies them, includes them in society, helps them with everyday tasks and interprets for them individually in various life situations. She lives next to them.
Interpretes, but only on a voluntary basis. Not for pay.
Yet she persists. Because she has a big heart. Because she understands them. She respects them. She feels them. With her heart.
Her modesty, sincerity, patience and courage show that she understands life and the world on a deeper level.
“Eva is good. Eva will help me. She understands me,” is something we often hear from people with deafblindness.
Eva is precious in the deafblind community. She is often a ray of hope that shines through the cracks.
