Gašper Pezdirc is a person with deafblindness who came to know his fate early in life—his father was deaf and, by the end of his life, completely deafblind. But for Gašper, it was even harder: back then, there were no communication tools like today, no personalized support systems, not even the Association DLAN. The shadows of silence and darkness accompanied him from a young age. Later, the same fate befell him—and his brother. But Gašper doesn’t give up. He moves forward—upright, determined, and positive.
“What do you need? I don’t have time. I’m in a hurry,” are his typical words during every visit to the Association DLAN. Always in motion, as if trying to outrun fate, yet always loyal to himself and his community.
Gašper is a co-founder and co-creator of The Deafblind Association of Slovenian DLAN. His knowledge, experience, and dedication are an indispensable part of the community. He actively contributes to technical solutions, serves on the Commission for Technical Aids, and constantly builds bridges for people with deafblindness.
“Technology is not a solution for everything, but it is a bridge. A bridge between the individual and the world,” says Gašper.
For him, DLAN is not just an organization:
“It’s a community where you find language, even though you cannot hear. Light, even though you cannot see.”
Gašper remains quiet, invisible—but the results of his work are visible and lasting.
He is a quiet fighter who opens paths for others.
