Lucija Brumec is a member of the Deafblind Association of Slovenia DLAN. She was born deaf, and later on, problems with vision and balance appeared. Today, she perceives obstacles only in optimal lighting and with maximum contrast. That is why she necessarily needs someone by her side to help her every step of the way. And she found that person in her husband – her partner, personal assistant, and greatest ally.

Her faith that there is a place where she would be heard, understood, and accepted led her to the DLAN Association. At first uncertain, later increasingly courageous. Today, she participates actively, brings forward initiatives and ideas, and empowers others. She has become an important part of the deafblind community, which helps, connects, and encourages.

Lucija is the mother of two growing children. With her story, she opens society’s eyes, breaks down prejudices, and is the voice of those who are often overlooked. Sometimes she says with a smile: “It’ll be okay.” And she truly means it from the heart.

Together with her husband, she loves to perform – with dance, with laughter, with joy. Lucija proves that deafblindness is not the end. It is just a different beginning.

The world needs such stories. Such people. Thank you, Lucija.
