Tanja Glušič, a member of the Deafblind Association of Slovenia DLAN, was born deaf, and today, due to Usher syndrome, she only perceives light and dark, and that too in just one eye.
But that doesn’t stop her – sports have been with her since childhood, and paraclimbing has become her great passion.
She always has the reliable support of her family by her side – that quiet, unwavering force that stands by her with understanding, encouragement, and help when she needs it most. It is thanks to them that she can persist and believe in her dreams.
Her achievements speak for themselves:
-
2014: Second place at the World Championship in Spain,
-
2018: Bronze medal at the World Championship in Innsbruck and Sportswoman of the Year among disabled athletes,
-
Victory at the Paraclimbing Masters in Imst (Austria),
-
Second place at the World Cup competition in Briançon,
-
2021: Third place at the World Cup in France, Briançon, and fourth place at the World Cup in Innsbruck,
-
2025: Silver medal at the World Cup in Salt Lake City, USA,
-
2025: Second place at the World Cup in Innsbruck.
Her greatest wish and goal? Participation in the Paralympic Games, where she could represent Slovenia and show the world that obstacles exist to be overcome.
Tanja came to the DLAN Association in 2014 when the country finally granted the first right to deafblind individuals – through the Regulations on Technical Aids and Vehicle Adaptation. Since then, she has been actively involved in the association, attending interesting lectures, and participating in sports and other activities. Quiet, unobtrusive, but incredibly curious and eager to learn.
Every encounter with her almost always ends with her signature question:
“Do you have time for a chat?”
Through her example, Tanja demonstrates that physical limitations do not define a person’s abilities – the greatest boundaries are the ones we set for ourselves.
Dreams are achievable if we pursue them with all our heart.
