Boris is deafblind and does not speak verbally, has difficulties with walking, intellectual development, as well as heart and kidney issues. When we meet him, what stands out the most is his smile, playfulness, and curiosity.
By his side stands his mother, Irena. An emotional support, conversational partner, personal assistant, advocate… in fact, a fighter. Life’s circumstances have not been kind to them. Yet, despite everything, they remain together—loyal, brave, and upright.
Today, Boris attends the Special Work Center Želva, where he enjoys participating, creating and dancing. He also happily visits The Deafblind Association of Slovenia DLAN. He communicates using signs, alternative communication methods, and the language of the deafblind.
He likes to follow a schedule, as it gives him a sense of security. He is fascinated by digital games, balls, water, and horses.
With signs, he often shows: ‘Mom, let’s go for a walk.’
Of course, Boris loves being in nature and in good company. In those moments, words are unnecessary.
His story is unique. It’s a reminder that love and dedication move boundaries. That every person is a world unto themselves. That Boris, despite all the obstacles, is a boy who, through his difference, teaches us how to love unconditionally.
