A representative of the Deafblind Association of Slovenia DLAN took part in a professional consultation held on the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, titled “Home services: identifying challenges and forming possible solutions to protect service recipients.” The consultation was organized by the National Council of Disability Organizations of Slovenia (NSIOS) and took place at the National Museum of Slovenia, Metelkova.
Representatives of various disability organizations presented their experiences in working with different groups of persons with disabilities and highlighted the difficulties they observe in the field. The central theme of the discussion was the various forms of violence that persons with disabilities encounter within disability services, which are mostly carried out in a home environment.
The consultation also focused on goals and aspirations for the future, aiming for more effective approaches to addressing experiences of violence and finding better solutions.
In the concluding address, the emphasis was placed on the great need for information sharing, improving the recognition of violence, encouraging individuals to seek help, raising awareness, and empowering persons with special needs, as well as informing and connecting key stakeholders.
The Deafblind Association of Slovenia DLAN gladly accepted the invitation and thus supported the activities of the National Council of Disability Organizations. We are aware of how important it is to speak about the issue of violence, which is very present in practice and must be addressed with the utmost seriousness.
