Al-Anon is an international self-help community for family members and friends of people struggling with alcohol.
It is based on anonymity, mutual support, and sharing experiences. Its mission is to help relatives find inner peace, balance, and the strength to make positive changes in their own lives while coping with a loved one’s addiction.
While people with addiction connect through Alcoholics Anonymous, their relatives often face struggles alone. This led to the creation of Al-Anon – a safe, nonjudgmental space where members learn to set healthy boundaries and accept that they cannot control another person’s illness.
With the help of guest speakers, we created such a supportive and confidential environment at the Deafblind Association of Slovenia DLAN. Ms. Luba and Mr. Dušan shared their honest personal experiences, encouraging open discussion where others could also share their stories.
Often, it is through change that the journey toward greater understanding, peace, and hope for the entire family begins.
