We had a very special day at the Deafblind Day Center. We were visited by Mrs. Dragica Ropret Žumer, a storyteller, educator and creator, who wholeheartedly introduced us to the Japanese art of storytelling with pictures – kamishibai.
Kamishibai is more than just a way of storytelling, it is an experience. With a wooden stage and pictures that come to life before our eyes, Dragica takes us into a world of imagination, emotions and picturesque stories. We learned about the history of this special art, and then listened to two warm stories that moved and connected us.
But Dragica is not only a storyteller. She is also the recipient of the award for the best narrative and visual depiction of kamishibai at the 7th International Kamishibai Festival in Slovenia.
With all due respect and gratitude, we thank her for the unforgettable experience that we were able to experience too – through the eyes, hearts and senses of people with deafblindness.
Thank you, Dragica, for sharing the magic of stories with us.
