At the Deafblind Association of Slovenia DLAN, we welcomed guests from the Association of Teachers of the Deaf of Slovenia. They presented stories from the book Not Quite Silent, created as part of the Erasmus project Silent. The book was written by Katja Lenič Šalamun, a mother of a deaf child.
Damjan Šebjan, a demonstrator of Slovenian Sign Language, adapted the stories into Slovenian Sign Language and captivated our members as well.
Among other things, we were introduced to resources for parents of deaf children and learned about the most common questions raised by parents of deaf children with cochlear implants. Similar challenges are also experienced by parents of children with deafblindness, which allows us to better understand the emotional struggles parents face when trying to establish communication with their child.
