It Happened.

Slovenia has adopted the Act on the Use of the Language of Deafblind Persons.

Just one day after celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Deafblind Association of Slovenia DLAN, a moment occurred that feels nothing short of a miracle.
The National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia unanimously – without a single vote against – adopted the Act on the Use of the Language of Deafblind Persons.

The most vulnerable field – deafblindness – has united the nation in respect for the most fragile among us.

In addition to granting rights to deafblind persons, the Act represents recognition of their existence, dignity, and greater equality.
With it, Slovenia officially acknowledges the linguistic and cultural identity of people with deafblindness.

People who use the language of the deafblind now have the right to be understood by the world.
This is the fruit of 20 years of effort, hard work, perseverance, knowledge, and solidarity — the result of what the community of persons with deafblindness, together with their supporters, families, professionals, and volunteers, has built through the Deafblind Association of Slovenia DLAN.

Thank you to everyone who believed, helped, contributed, reflected, translated, interpreted, spoke, wrote, and persisted.
Thank you to all members of the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia who listened and recognised the importance of a language that is felt through the hands.

The Act on the Use of the Language of Deafblind Persons brings, beyond rights, the most precious of all — human dignity.
