Last week the secretary of the Deafblind Association of Slovenia DLAN dr. Simona Gerenčer and professional worker Marjana Kenda attended the Nordic Conference of the Nordic Welfare Centre: »Today’s knowledge for tomorrow’s actions – a Nordic perspective on Deafblindness«  which took place from 19 to 22 September 2022 in Tampere, Finland. It was a very important and large event, bringing together more than 180 professionals working with people with deafblindness. Most of the experts came from Finland, Denmark, Norway, Iceland and some from Germany and Scotland.

Together with experts in the field of deafblindness in Denmark, Region Nordjylland (North Denmark Region), as a part of the conference, we presented a poster which contained key inoformation about our joint Erasmus+ project with title »Cross-cultural Project on Deafblindness«.

We also had the opportunity to visit the Finnish Deafblind Organization (FDBA) and learn more about their work; programmes and services, which among others include housing and rehabilitation services for people with deafblindness.

It was a great honour for us, to be a part of this inspiring conference and to have the opportunity to listen and learn from the best experts in the field of deafblindness. We learned about research results and modern approaches for working with people with deafblindness, from which we can draw knowledge and inspiration for future work. This was the first time that the Deafblind Association of Slovenia DLAN, and thus Slovenia, was represented and part of the Nordic Conference.
