We are publishing the video speech by Dr. Simona Gerenčer, Secretary General of the Deafblind Association of Slovenia DLAN, delivered at the ceremony marking the 20th anniversary of the Deafblind Association of Slovenia DLAN.
The speech follows the essence of the journey of deafblindness in Slovenia:
– 20 years of learning, action, and connection,
– 20 years of advocating for the human rights of people with deafblindness,
– 20 years of building and strengthening the deafblind community,
– 20 years of developing the professional field of deafblindness,
– 20 years of including people with deafblindness, and
– historical milestones: the recognition of the language of the deafblind, its inclusion in the Constitution of the Republic of Slovenia – the only such case in the world, and the adoption of an independent Act on the Use of the Language of the Deafblind.
All of these are miracles that have left an indelible mark on society.
Thank you to all and each one of you who, over these two decades, have contributed your time, knowledge, and heart.
Together, we prove that real change happens where one person stands by another.
The video is interpreted into Slovenian Sign Language.
Interpreter of Slovenian Sign Language: Boštjan Jerko.
