In today’s workshop, the users of the Deafblind Association of Slovenia DLAN explored an important historical figure – Janez Vajkard Valvasor. The workshop was held as part of the DLAN READS 2 project, funded by the Ministry of Culture.
With interpretation into the deafblind language, participants gained an in-depth understanding of his life, key achievements, and their impact on Slovenia’s rich cultural heritage. This knowledge will be meaningfully enhanced through a hands-on experience during a visit to the National Museum of Slovenia and by viewing Valvasor’s monument on the Museum Plaza in front of the museum.
New information and vocabulary only gain true significance when a deafblind person can connect them to a concrete experience. This experience allows the individual to integrate new concepts into their linguistic world, helping them express themselves more fully and broadening their overall cultural awareness.
Developing methods to make information accessible to individuals whose world is often more limited due to sensory impairments is of vital importance. Only in this way can a person deepen their understanding of themselves as an individual and of the world around them.
