INVITATION TO EVENT

“The Importance of the Language of the Deafblind”
Public Lecture by Prof. Dr. Marko Stabej

You are warmly invited to join us on Tuesday, 9th of December, at 3 p.m., for a public lecture by Prof. Dr. Marko Stabej, Slovenian linguist and full professor of the Slovenian language at the Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana.

The title of his lecture is: “The Importance of the Language of the Deafblind.”

How do we even know that something is a language? Is grammar a necessary condition for its existence? How does a language emerge, develop, and what principles shape it?

The lecture will also address the language of the deafblind – a language expressed through touch, with its own structure, development, and immense significance for the deafblind community. In light of the adoption of the Act on the Use of the Language of the Deafblind, the lecture will shed light on common stereotypes about what a language is and the many ways it can be expressed.

You are warmly invited to an engaging reflection on the nature of language and its essential role in every human community.

Where:
Premises of the DLAN Association, Trebinjska ulica 7, Ljubljana

When:
Tuesday, 9th of December 2025, at 3 p.m.
