The Deafblind Association of Slovenia DLAN responded to the invitation of the British Embassy to attend an event marking the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
In the address of the Deputy British Ambassador, we heard a powerful message: approximately 1.3 billion people with disabilities live in the world.
If adequately included in education and employment, they could contribute 3–7% of GDP. This clearly demonstrates how much we, as a society, lose due to infrastructural barriers and ineffective inclusion mechanisms.
At the end of the address, the Embassy introduced its selected candidate—golden graduate Mia Koritnik, a person with blindness—who will, within the activities of the British Embassy, take on the role of advocating for young persons with disabilities.
An inspiring decision and a strong step forward for amplifying the voice of young people.
The event concluded with warm and open networking, once again showing that real change begins through dialogue and connection.
