Developing the Language of Deafblind People Through Learning the Haptic Mode of Communication

16. 12. 2025 | Deafblind Association

At the day center of the Deafblind Association of Slovenia DLAN, daily activities and workshops are held regularly, including monthly workshops on learning the haptic way of communication.

The workshops are part of the project “The Language of Deafblind People as a Means of Inclusion,” funded by the Ministry of Culture.

Professional staff, together with users and their assistants, create an encouraging space for exploring and deepening the understanding of word meanings through haptic signs.

These signs form an important part of the language of deafblind people, as they enable individuals with deafblindness to better orient themselves, understand what is happening around them, and gain greater independence in various life situations.

Understanding the meaning of individual haptic signs is crucial for their use in everyday situations to become meaningful, effective, and adapted to the needs of users.
