As the final days of December came to an end, the users of the Deafblind Association of Slovenia DLAN gathered at the association’s day center, where they together created a warm space for reminiscing about the past year and for strengthening closeness and connection with their peers.
At gatherings like these, users express their gratitude in a special way for the deafblind community in which they are accepted, understood, and heard.
These moments are also an opportunity for them to share their unique talents with one another, and the conclusion of the year 2025 was no exception.
The participants delighted those present with a short, humorous play about Santa Claus and his helpers, which, with its playfulness and imaginatively prepared props and stage, brought smiles to everyone gathered.
The play ended symbolically with the helpers receiving gifts: each received one digit of the year 2026.
In this act, the participants recognized a deep message – every new year is a new opportunity, a gift that invites further exploration of oneself and one’s own inner sources of strength for facing everyday challenges.
When confronting deafblindness, the deafblind community is especially aware of how fragile, unpredictable, and at the same time precious life is.
Nothing can be taken for granted – not health, not the closeness of another person, and not the next 365 days of life.
That is why the deafblind community is a precious teacher to all of us, as it teaches us to recognize what is truly most valuable in life: time and belonging to a community.
