The Secretary General of the DLAN Association shared her reflections at the end of 2025 with the Foundation for Funding Disability and Humanitarian Organisations – FIHO.
FIHO invited her to answer the question: “Which achievement of your organization in 2025 means the most to you?”
Dr. Simona Gerenčer highlighted that two achievements were especially important and deeply symbolic for the DLAN Association in 2025.
The first is the adoption of the independent Act on the Use of Deafblind Language, a long-awaited step that finally recognizes the language of people with deafblindness and establishes foundations that should be self-evident. This is a victory of the community’s perseverance for the dignity of persons with deafblindness.
The second achievement is the 20th anniversary of the DLAN Association. Two decades of hard work, personal stories, breakthroughs, and countless moments in which people with deafblindness proved that they will not be silenced. The Association understands this anniversary as a value in itself—showing that tradition matters, and that respect begins where the community is strong.
