READING CORNER OF THE DEAFBLIND DAY CENTRE

26. 11. 2025 | Deafblind Association

Within the Deafblind Day Centre, which operates as part of the only public social-care programme for the deafblind in Slovenia – Training and Social Rehabilitation of the Deafblind – there is also the reading corner of the Deafblind Association of Slovenia DLAN. There, users are offered, among other things, the possibility to use a technical aid – an electronic magnifier. As the combined impairment of vision and hearing progresses, persons with deafblindness learn to use various tools that help them better align their needs with gradually changing sensory abilities.

Using an electronic magnifier allows a person with deafblindness a customised reading experience of various types of literature. They can adjust the magnification of the text according to their needs, and the text can also be set to different colour contrasts to make reading easier.

Deafblindness is a unique life circumstance that requires adaptations – but not necessarily giving up activities that bring joy and meaning to everyday life. This is why the Deafblind Association of Slovenia DLAN strives to ensure that individuals, with the support of professional staff and the deafblind community, strengthen their hope and capacity to find creative ways of preserving those aspects of life that matter most to them.
