The Deafblind Association of Slovenia DLAN exists because behind the numbers, hardships, and words there are real people and real families.
It exists because understanding, professional support, and human warmth are not a given—they are built over many years with patience and courage.
The work of the DLAN Association changes lives precisely where distress is greatest and voices are the quietest. In order to carry out this mission responsibly, professionally, and continuously, solid foundations are essential—among them stable funding.
Non-governmental organizations are vital because we remain close to people where systems fail or move too slowly. We are a voice of lived experience, not merely theory, and we work persistently and courageously—even when this work is not comfortable, but necessary.
We kindly invite you to read a letter of gratitude from a father that we received in recent days.
“Dear members of the DLAN Association,
On the occasion of your 20th anniversary, I would like to reach out with my sincere thanks—thanks from the heart, born of the experience of a father and a person who knows what it means to have someone by your side who truly understands.
As the father of the deafblind Tanja Glušič, I have faced many concerns, questions, and moments of helplessness along the way. In those moments, the DLAN Association was more than just support—it was a pillar of strength, a safe haven, a place of understanding and human warmth. With you, we were not alone.
For twenty years, your work has quietly yet immensely transformed lives. You give a voice to those who cannot raise it themselves, connect people, build bridges between worlds, and prove that kindness, patience, and respect are values that still matter.
I would like to express my especially deep gratitude to Secretary Simona Gerenčer, whose dedication, humanity, and sincere attentiveness leave an indelible mark. Her kind words, understanding, and willingness to help mean more than words can express—not only in an organizational sense, but above all on a human level.
Thank you to all of you who co-create the DLAN Association—employees, volunteers, and everyone who believes in this mission. Because of you, people with deafblindness and their families experience more dignity, more hope, and a stronger sense of being accepted just as they are.
I wish you many more years of courage, health, and strength, so that you may continue to light a flame where the world is often too dark.
With deep respect and gratitude,
Marjan Glušič
father of the deafblind Tanja Glušič”
