Today, we experienced something extraordinary at the Deafblind Association of Slovenia DLAN. In a hall full of kind-hearted people, experts, decision-makers, supporters of the deaf-blind community, friends, relatives and people with deafblindness, Prof. Dr. Zvezdan Pirtošek, a doctor, neurologist, gave a lecture with all his dedication. A man of reason and heart.
With his extraordinary energy and warmth, he brought us closer to the miracle of brain function and explained what happens when a person cannot see, cannot hear … and even when he cannot see and cannot hear at the same time. When the world becomes silent and invisible, *touch* becomes what keeps us alive, in relationships, in language.
He spoke specifically about touch and the power of touch, which is a key link in people, especially in people with deafblindness. The language of the deafblind, which takes place through touch, is a bridge. It is life. That is why *the language of the deafblind* plays such an invaluable role. Prof. Dr. Pirtošek Through examples, not only shed additional light on the functioning of the brain, but also touched on the attitude towards life.
This lecture was the first in a series of public lectures as part of the cycle of lectures on deafblindness and human values, which we will continue in the autumn at the DLAN Association. The event was also part of the **Helen Keller Week** activity – a week that reminds us every year of who truly enriches society: *the most vulnerable among us*
A sincere and heartfelt thank you to Prof. Dr. Zvezdan Pirtošek.
Thank you to everyone who filled the hall and hearts with us.
Thank you for sharing everything that was positive.
And thank you to everyone who believes that a space like the Deafblind Association of SloveniaDLAN can be a place where *human values* are strengthened for the benefit of all.
The Deafblind Association of Slovenia DLAN – *a touch that connects*.
In the coming days, we will publish the full recording of the lecture.
