It is the first documentary in Slovenia about people with deafblindness, i.e. people with simultaneous hearing and vision impairment. Through the film, viewers learn about the lives of people with deafblindness, their needs and abilities, as well as the diversity of deafblindness and the strength needed to overcome everyday obstacles in one’s life. The film introduces the deafblind community that was formed more than 19 years ago – the Deafblind Association of Slovenia DLAN – and the importance of this community. People with deafblindness, as competent and respected interlocutors, present their life stories in the film, which are mostly filled with remarkable strength, patience and vulnerability. Individuals also reveal their abilities.
Central to the stories of people with deafblindness is touch, through which they learn about the world, using their own language – the language of the deafblind, which enables them to be understood and to understand. Creativity in its many forms is their way of expressing themselves and contributing to society. The creation of a deafblind community plays an important role in the quality of life of an individual with deafblindness and in successfully overcoming everyday obstacles.
